Fabric Qualities

What fabric qualities do you offer?

  • For launch, we offer two qualities that work with WOVNS color palettes: Divan and Talma.
  • Divan is a 54″ wide cotton, rayon and polyester quality, ideal for upholstery and products. The maximum repeat is 13.5″, and will repeat 4 times across the width of the goods. The fabric weight per yard averages 13.5 oz.
  • Talma is a 46″- 48″ wide cotton and rayon quality, suitable for soft home goods, products, and some apparel. Talma has full width repeat capability. Fabric weight per yard is 14 – 16 oz.
  • Complete fabric specifications can be found here.
Complete file specifications can be found here.
  • Divan and Talma are best suited for duo-tone and tri-tone designs.
For tips on working with these qualities, visit our Tutorials section.

Which fabric quality should I use for my project?

  • The best fabric to use for your project depends on the look and feel you want the final product to have. The colors and weaves that you use in your design will also affect the overall look and feel of your finished fabric, as each WOVNS color palette has a unique fiber composition and selection of weaves.
  • Hand (how your fabric feels):
    • Qualities and color palettes with higher percentages of cotton will have a drier, more matte hand.
    • Qualities and color palettes with higher percentages of rayon will have a silkier hand and increased drape.
    • Qualities and color palettes with higher percentages of polyester will have increased smoothness and structure.
  • Below is a general guideline of fiber composition for our qualities and color palettes. For specific details on percent fiber composition of a given color palette, visit the individual palette pages.

Finishing

In what state will my fabric arrive?

  • You fabric will arrive cut and unfinished, meaning it will have a raw unfinished edge on the top and bottom of your yardage.
  • The Divan quality comes with a width wise selvage edge to prevent fraying and the Talma quality comes with a width wise selvage edge plus fringe. As mentioned above, both qualities arrive cut and unfinished on the top and bottom edges.
  • Some shrinkage may occur during the weaving process. Typical values are 1% in the length and width of the woven goods.
  • Your fabric will arrive folded in a box. Fabric rolled onto a bolt (instead of folded) is available for orders over 50 yards or by special request for an additional charge.

Do you offer a finishing option?

  • Yes, surging or rolled hem and / or pockets (for banners) are available by request.

Does WOVNS offer the option to turn my woven design into products?

  • Yes, WOVNS now offers the ability to have your fabric made into pillows and throws. Contact customer service to complete your order.

Care

How should I care for my WOVNS fabric?

  • We recommend that you dry clean your WOVNS fabrics.
  • For upholstered pieces, clean with mild, water-free dry cleaning solvent.
  • For small stains, spot clean with mild soap and water.

What heat settings do you recommend for ironing?

  • Divan quality: contains synthetic fibers. Iron should be set to the synthetic setting, applying a light touch. Higher iron temperatures may result in discoloration or melting of the polyester fibers.
  • Talma quality: contains natural fibers. Iron should be set to the cotton setting. Steam may be used to remove wrinkles.
